Question
How do I add my DavisMail account to my personal Gmail account?
Overview
If you have DUO enabled, and you would like to "send as" from your personal Gmail account, you will need to setup an App Password (Part one of the instructions below).
Answer
Take the following steps to add your DavisMail account to your Gmail account:
The first step is to create an App Password in DavisMail to use to authenticate:
- Log into your DavisMail account.
- Choose the Google Apps menu (Top right, 9 dots) and select Account
- Choose Security on the left
- Scroll to the Signing in with Google section. If 2-Step verification is not enabled, click and follow the on-screen instructions to enable.
- Select App Passwords. Note, if you did not enable 2-Step verification above, this option will not be available.
- Select Mail from the first drop-down, then Other from the second drop-down.
- Enter "Personal Gmail" or some other meaningful name and click Generate.
- This will generate a password. You will need to use this password in the next step.
The second step is to setup the connection in Gmail:
- Log into your Gmail account.
- Click the Gear at the top right corner and then choose Settings.
- Select the Accounts and Imports.
- Under “Send Mail As:” Click "Add another email address you own," (which should open another window).
- Input your full email address (MailID@ucdavis.edu).
- Uncheck “Treat as an alias.”
- Click Next Step.
- SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com.
- Port: 587.
- Username: Input your full email address (MailID@ucdavis.edu).
- Password: Enter the password you obtained in the first step.
- Make sure that “Secured connection using TLS” is bubbled in.
- Click Add Account.
