Question

How do I subscribe to Status Notifications?

Overview

The UC Davis Status Page provides up-to-date information about the status of campus IT services. The Status Page is utilized to notify customers when IT services are impacted via web, email, SMS, Twitter, and an RSS feed. Anyone can subscribe to the services listed on the status page to receive these notifications.

Answer

Subscribing to updates

  1. Go to http://status.ucdavis.edu/
  2. Select the SUBSCRIBE TO UPDATES button at the top right.
  3. Select one of the subscription options:
    • Email (If you subscribe a mailing list address, any of the mailing list subscribers will be able to unsubscribe the entire mailing list via the link at the bottom of each email.)
    • SMS (WARNING: Monitoring and maintaining the campus IT services is 24 hour a day operation. Notifications may be sent during all hours of the day. Configure your phone appropriately if you want to avoid receiving SMS notifications during off hours. See the section titled SMS Notifications below for more info.)
    • Webhook (See this Statuspage knowledge base article for more info)
    • Twitter
    • RSS Feed
  4. You will receive a confirmation email containing a link to manage your subscription options.
  5. Click the link in the email to be taken to a status notification management web page where you can select specific campus IT services you want to receive notifications for.
  6. After selecting the services, click update preferences.

Subscribing to active incidents

There is also the option to receive notifications for active incident. This is useful if you want to track a service disruption that may be affecting you, but it is for a service you are not already subscribed to.

Subscribing to Scheduled Maintenance

When a maintenance has been scheduled it will show on the Status Page towards the bottom. You can receive updates to a scheduled maintenance by clicking the Service Name.

Unsubscribing to updates

Each email notification includes a "manage your subscriptions" link at the bottom of the message which takes you to a unique web address for managing the subscriptions for your email address.  You can unsubscribe to SMS notifications by replying to an SMS with the word STOP. You may also contact IT Express for assistance.

SMS Notifications

SMS is a resilient communication channel for receiving incident and maintenance notifications. We recommend you utilize the SMS subscription service to receive instant notifications for the IT services critical for your business. The table below indicates when an SMS will be sent. Since the Campus Data Center is a 24 x 7 operation you should expect to receive SMS notifications outside of normal business hours.

You can configure your smartphone to prevent intrusive SMS notifications during specific hours of the day:
