Add the Eduroam wireless network using Eduroam CAT

Eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistant Tool) is a tool provided by the eduroam community to simplify the process of configuring user devices for the eduroam network. Using Eduroam CAT is especially useful because it automatically configures the necessary security settings for you.

Here's how to add the eduroam wireless network using Eduroam CAT:

NOTE: To set up eduroam, you first need a temporary internet connection. Connect to another network (e.g., UCD-Guest, Personal Hotspot) before following the instructions below.

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the Eduroam CAT website: https://cat.eduroam.org/
  2. Look for and click the button labeled "Click here to download your eduroam installer." (Its appearance or location might vary, but the wording should be similar.)
  3. A list of Organizations should appear. In the search field, type "University of California, Davis" and select it from the dropdown or list that appears.
  4. After selecting your institution, you'll be presented with available installers for various operating systems. Choose the one labeled "Chromebook".
  5. The Eduroam CAT tool will then provide a Chromebook configuration file (typically ending in .onc). Download this file.
  6. After downloading, open Chrome and enter the address "chrome://net-internals/#chromeos" into the browser's address bar.
  7. Click the "Import ONC file" button. When prompted, browse to and select the .onc file you downloaded earlier.
  8. Finally, access the wireless network list on your Chromebook and choose "Eduroam". When prompted, remember to use your University of California, Davis Kerberos credentials (formatted as "yourkerberosid@ucdavis.edu") to connect.
