Question

How do I update my display name and department listing in campus systems like email, myUCDavis and other main campus systems?
Campus systems have changed so that the display name is the lived name or preferred name and is what appears on campus systems. It may differ from legal name.

Updating pronouns is also listed below.

Overview

After July 14, 2024, you will be prompted to enter pronoun and gender in UC Path. "Decline to state" and "My name only" are available. NOTE: On occasion this or other changes in UC Path may reset your lived name to legal. Follow steps on this page to update your name.
Please send feedback for issues to ucpath@ucdavis.edu.

Students:
Use the Online Directory to update your listing including lived name, pronouns, and gender. Please see https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=10162 for steps to complete this.
If you are also staff,
you will need to also update your name and pronouns in UC Path as well.

Answer

Staff and Faculty:
Display Name and pronouns: Go to UC Path to update lived name, pronouns, and gender. The interface is not intuitive with the UC Davis database. Faculty, Staff, and some contractors may use UC Path.
Display name is listed as "Name" in UC Path. Your update is not complete until you receive an email from UC Path. Please follow all the UC Path steps.

If you are having issues or want to see the steps, please see this video provided by UC Path.

Department name and position title: Use the Online Directory to update your Department name and position title. Please see https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=10162 for steps to complete this.

UCD temporary affiliate:
Speak with your sponsor to get your affiliate form updated for name.
Department and position title, if present, will reflect from your last UC Path feed or empty as the affiliate process does not provide that information to the database and cannot be overridden.

UCDH affiliate:
Work with your sponsor and UCDH IT to update your records there first. You can reach them by Emailiscs@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu or Phone: 916-734-4357 (Operates 24/7)

UC Path Steps

Your name as displayed in UC Path is not your name or legal name. Do not rely on this to confirm changes you have made. You will receive an email confirmation if the change was successful. If you have a pending name or legal name change, you will not be able to proceed until the change is approved.

The name you see when you log into UC Path does not confirm you made any changes.

1. Log into UC Path
Reminder: Your update is not complete until you receive an email from UC Path.
2. Click employee actions in the menu on the bottom left, then click “edit profile” or "employee actions" then click “personal information” and "personal information" again.
3. Answer your personal security question.
4. In the “personal information summary” window screen, click on the Legal Name/Name banner. This will display your current listed Display name.
5. Click on to make any updates to your legal name or name (this is your display name).
6. Click to open the edit page.
7. Complete the edit name form. You may edit your first, middle, and last name in the second "highlighted" section titled "Name" for your display name. You can see a preview your name changes at the bottom of the page.

8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click to open the confirmation page.
9. Scroll to the bottom of the page to complete and confirm changes to legal name and name (your display name)  are correct and click
10. You will get an email from UC Path when you complete these steps and your name update/change is complete.
11. If you did not get and email or see your name was not updated, please email: ucpath@ucdavis.edu

How long does it take for updates to appear?

Updates will populate over 24-72 hours. Most systems will populate overnight. If it has been longer than 72 hours, please verify the updates in the above processes. Log out and back into systems to also assist in populating the new data.
For Faculty or Staff updating their department and title, your request is sent to your department approver. Once they review and complete your request, updates will populate over 24-72 hours.
