Question

How do I access the campus wired networks with my Mac computer?

Overview

In order to connect your Mac computer to many of the wired networks on campus you are required to register your MAC (Media Access Control) address. This is a unique identifier specific to your computer and the hardware inside it.

Answer

  1. From the Apple menu , select System Settings (or System Preferences), then click Network
  2. Choose Ethernet from the list of connections, then click Details (or Advanced).
  3. Click on Hardware and note the value in the MAC Address field. This is what you will need to register your computer.
  4. Go to the Computing Account Services page. Select Ethernet registration and follow the instructions.
  5. Once you have registered your address, you should have a connection in about 15 minutes.
  6. If you have successfully registered your computer but are not getting a connection in your room within an hour, please contact IT Express at 530-754-HELP (4357) for further assistance.
  7. Have your 5 or 6-digit port number from your room ready when you call.
