Note: Duo changes go into effect on February 28th, 2024.
Duo provides an extra layer of security to protect your accounts and your data.
If hackers steal your ID and passphrase, they still can't access your account, because they won't have the verification from Duo that you get on your phone or token. For more about Duo at UC Davis, see https://movetoduo.ucdavis.edu.
Note to applicants for admission to UC Davis: You can enroll in Duo at UC Davis once you are accepted and file your statement of intent to register.
We recommend push / token codes (from the app or hard token) over SMS and Phone.
Students: If you do not have a smart phone, you can use a Duo token (a small piece of hardware that generates the authentication code.) Tokens can be purchased from UC Davis Stores (price $29.99 + tax) or, if you need financial assistance, request one from the AggieCompass Basic Needs Center.
To enroll in Duo at UC Davis, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Select a device to enroll in Duo, and enroll that device
You enroll by registering the primary device you will use to login to your accounts. Select the device from the list below, then follow its corresponding link for instructions on how to enroll in Duo with that device. If you're not sure which devices to enroll, read this article.
Step 2: Register a second device in Duo
Registering a second device gives you a backup method of authenticating with Duo when your primary method is not available. Follow these instructions to register your second device.
Step 3: Use Duo
Once you have enrolled in Duo, you can select your preferred authentication method.
After that, each time you log into a Duo-protected site, Duo will use your chosen method to authenticate your login.
You may see an additional question asking you if you are the only person who uses this device.
