Question

How do I log into CAS (Central Authentication Service)?

Overview

CAS provides a single sign-on (SSO) experience for several campus and departmental IT services. This is not the same as services that use ADFS authentication.

Beware of Phishing! Make sure you are logging into the service page and check for links made to look like UC Davis to aimed at obtaining your passphrase.

Common access issues are:

Reminder: When accessing an application or service, always go to the website intended for the application (ex. canvas.ucdavis.edu, studentaccount.ucdavis.edu). Do not save or bookmark a CAS log in screen as those sessions are limited and will cause issues in the future. Instead, bookmark the page for the service you are trying to access.

Answer

Applicants:

Please see our Applicant FAQ at applicant.ucdavis.edu
Also see help for Log in and Passphrase access issues for more information.

Staff, faculty, students, or temporary affiliates:

New staff, faculty, students, and temporary affiliates:

Create your computing account with these instructions: KB000197 - Create your UC Davis Computer Account
If you have created your account, it may still be provisioning. Please wait for overnight processes to complete before logging into services and email.

Your Bookmarked Page is not working:

CAS is not something you log into but how a site authenticates you.
If you are trying to log into a screen that's just "CAS", you will incur errors. To avoid this, do not bookmark log in pages. The website for the department or service you are using has the log in session for you.
Always go to the website intended for the application (ex. canvas.ucdavis.edu, studentaccount.ucdavis.edu) when logging in. Use these sites over clicking a link in an email if you suspect the email is phishing. If you do suspect phishing, see this page for steps to report it: https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=08378

If you have left UC Davis:

Your computing account has closed. You cannot log into any CAS authenticated services.

Beware of Phishing

Sometimes hackers create fake pages that look like the CAS portal page. They do this to try to acquire UC Davis credentials, such as usernames, passwords, and even credit card details. This is called phishing
If you do suspect phishing, see this page for steps to report it: https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=08378

Please be mindful of the URL in your web browser when authenticating through the CAS portal page. Also, check for the lock icon to the left of the URL.
