Question

How to manually verify UC Davis SSL certificate presented by a website?

Overview

If your browser displays a certificate warning dialog box, the SSL certificate is unlikely to be valid, and you should not proceed to enter any sensitive information, such as personal information ID numbers or passwords.

If such a warning dialog is displayed when connecting to a UC Davis website, you should contact IT Express for assistance and information.

Answer

Note: Instructions may vary slightly between iOS versions. The following is with iOS 8.3

Check to see if there is a padlock in the address bar. Please see screenshot below. If there is no padlock, then the SSL Certificate is not valid and you should not enter any sensitive information.
