Question

How do I connect to the eduroam wireless network?

Overview

Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide, wireless network developed for the international research and education community. Once you're connected to eduroam, you can enjoy secure Wi-Fi access at UC Davis, as well as at hundreds of other educational institutions worldwide. No matter where you roam, your UC Davis security credentials are always checked back home at UC Davis. For more information, please visit the eduroam service page in the IT Service Catalog.

Answer

There are three different methods for connecting to the eduroam wireless network:

Option 1 (RECOMMENDED) - Use the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT)

The eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) automatically configures the eduroam wireless network profile on your system. It works on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and Linux, and can be accessed with any type of connection (cellular, Wi-Fi or wired connection).
The CAT tool is quick, easy, safe, reliable and its use is strongly recommended. CAT streamlines the configuration process and avoids many problems experienced with other setup methods.

If using a Mac computer, refer to the instructions in KB0011260

To use the CAT Tool:

  1. Go to http://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=831 from the device you are trying to connect to eduroam.
  2. Click the i icon and review the instructions.
  3. When asked to provide credentials to access the eduroam network, enter them as follows:
    • Username:
      • yourkerberosid@ucdavis.edu (CORRECT)
      • youremail@ucdavis.edu (INCORRECT)
    • Password: your Kerberos Passphrase

Option 2 - Use your device's built-in wireless network manager

If the CAT tool does not work for you, you can configure a connection using the wireless network management utility built into you device's operating system. See these platform specific instructions:

Option 3 - Manually configure in settings

Finally, it is also possible to manually configure an eduroam connection in your computer's settings:
