Follow these steps to enroll in Duo with your smartphone.
Before you begin:
- We recommend performing these steps during support hours (M - F, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
- Make sure your smartphone is charged
- You will need your Apple App Store or Android Play Store password to complete Step 2
- If you are registering your smartphone as a second device, use these instructions.
Part 1: Begin Duo Enrollment from Your Computer
Note: These steps must be completed on a laptop or desktop computer.
- To begin your Duo enrollment, open your web browser to https://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu, select the Duo Multifactor Authentication option, and log into CAS.
- Your browser will now show the Duo Enrollment screen. Click Start setup.
- You are prompted to select the type of device you are adding. Select Mobile phone, and then click Continue.
- Enter your mobile phone number in the space provided.
- After entering the phone number, a second field displays for you to confirm the number. Check that the number is correct, select the checkbox, and then click Continue.
Note: If you are using an international phone number, you can select your country from the drop down menu as illustrated below: - Enter the type of mobile phone you are enrolling, and then click Continue. (NOTE: Smartphone users should select iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone.)
Part 2: Install the Duo Mobile App on Your Smartphone
- Go to the App Store or Play Store on your smartphone.
- Search for Duo Mobile.
- Install the app on your smartphone. There is no fee to install the app.
NOTE: You will need your App Store or Play Store password to complete installation
Part 3: Complete Enrollment Using Your Computer and Your Smartphone
- After completing the installation of the app on the smartphone, on your computer, click I have Duo Mobile installed.
- The Activate Duo Mobile screen displays. With the Activate Duo Mobile screen displaying on the computer, open the Duo Mobile app on the smartphone.
- Click the plus sign (+) in the upper right corner of the phone screen.
- From the Duo Mobile app, scan the barcode that displays in the Activate Duo Mobile computer screen.
- A green checkmark displays on the computer screen. Click Continue. You are done with enrollment and can skip to Part 5 below.
Part 4: Complete Enrollment Using Your Smartphone (No Computer)
- After completing the installation of the app on the smartphone, on your computer, click I have Duo Mobile installed.
- The Activate Duo Mobile screen displays. Click on the Email me an activation link instead link.
- Enter an email address you access to on your smartphone and press Send email.
- On your smartphone, open your email. You should receive an email from "Duo Security <no-reply@duosecurity.com>" with a link to a web site. Click this link open a web site with the activation link. On the web site, click the Activate Duo Mobile link to activate the Duo mobile application.
- You have now enrolled the Duo mobile app. Click Continue.
- Press Finish Enrollment to complete the enrollment of your Smartphone.
Part 5: Select Duo Authentication Method on the Computer
- The Enrollment Successful screen displays. Click Dismiss.
- Verify that your phone number is correct, and select an authentication option for When I log in. The recommended setting is Automatically send this device a Duo Push.
- Click Save, then click Finish Enrollment.
