What list type should I use?
Overview
Sympa offers three preset list configuration settings when creating a new list. You have the ability to customize and change list options once the list has been created if you later decide to modify the list's behavior.
Answer
List Type #1: Announce-only List
Why you would pick this list: It is a one-way communication from the list's owner to the subscribers.
- Users who wish to subscribe will need to be approved by the list owner.
- E-mail sent to the list will need to be approved by the list owner.
- The list owner can send email to the list.
- The list is available for all users to see on the "List of Lists".
- Emails will be archived and available to subscribers.
List Type #2: Contact Us List
Why you would pick this list: It is a one-way communication from anyone to the list's owner.
- Users who wish to subscribe will need to be approved by the list owner.
- E-mail sent to the list does not need to be approved by the list owner.
- Any email user (non-UCD and UCD users) can email the list.
- The list is not available on the "List of Lists".
- The list is not archived.
List Type #3: Department Mailing List
Why you would pick this list: It is a two-way communication between members of the list.
- Users who wish to subscribe will need to be approved by the list owner.
- Only subscribers of the list may send mail to it.
- The list is not available on the "List of Lists".
- The list is not archived.
