How can I download Microsoft Office 365 and other Microsoft applications to my computer?

Overview

• Students can download Microsoft 365 for free. See instructions below to download and install it.
  • Student licensing includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook. 
  • Licensing covers ACTIVE student currently enrolled at UC Davis and ends when your computing account closes.
  • Students can purchase additional software with UC Davis Stores or Microsoft.
• Staff and Faculty must be affiliated with a department purchasing desktop licenses (A3 or A5) through the CASA program to qualify.
• You can install MS 365 on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones.
• Use the MS 365 Mobile apps for iOS and Android - View and edit MS 365 documents on your mobile device.

NOTE: The activation and continued use of a Microsoft 365 subscription requires an active affiliation with UC Davis as faculty, student, or staff. Students will have access to the license while they are active UC Davis students.

Microsoft products not listed below such as Visio, Copilot, and Project are available to staff and faculty through Dell. Please see your departmental purchasing agent with AggieEnterprise for assistance.

  Please note if you have issues accessing those applications, you may need to reset your passphrase so your Microsoft permissions are updated. Please see this KB for more information on that: https://kb.ucdavis.edu/?id=0121

Windows and Mac

1. Make sure your Operating System is supported.
2. Navigate to office.ucdavis.edu or 365.ucdavis.edu in your browser and log in with your UC Davis credentials (full UC Davis email address and your Kerberos passphrase).
3. Click the Install and more button towards the top-right, then click Install Microsoft 365 apps.
   
4. Click Install Office below Office apps & devices to download the installer.
   
5. Upon completion of the download, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. When prompted for your UC Davis credentials, enter:
   
   • Username - your full UC Davis email address.
   • Password - your Kerberos Passphrase.

Work with files on OneDrive

1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 then go to Settings > Microsoft 365 settings.
2. Go to the Subscriptions tab and look for "the latest desktop version of Office".

Removing a Microsoft account or Microsoft 365 account from an iOS device

1. On the iPad, click the Settings app icon.
2. In Settings, scroll down and find one of your Office for iPad apps (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) and click the icon.
3. Under RESET, tap Reset <app name>
4. Slide to enable Delete Login Credentials
5. The next time you launch the app, all of your login credentials should be deleted.
