Question

How do I make changes to an owner for my Sympa list?

Overview

In order to make owner changes to a list you must ensure that you have privileged access to the list. There are two types of profile access as an owner, normal and privileged. Please contact a privileged owner of your list to be granted this access or contact IT Express if there are no privileged owners associated with your list.

Answer

To make changes to an owner (add, remove, or edit privileges) for a Sympa list:

  1. Log in to: http://lists.ucdavis.edu.
  2. Click the Admin button next to the desired list.
  3. Click Edit List Config.
  4. Click List Definition.
  5. Scroll down to the Owner (owner) field and add/remove the desired information.
    • There are only 3 owner slots available at first, but as you add owners, more empty slots to add additional owners will populate after you click update (step 7)
    • You can only add one owner at a time, but you can remove multiple owners
  6. Set Profile from normal to privileged to enable the user to make global list changes as you can.
  7. Click Update at the bottom of the page to save changes.

I've created a new list and there are only three fields list for owners, can I have more?

Yes. By default there are three fields. If you have three owners, then a fourth (empty) field will be visible. Each time you add a new owner, a new blank field will appear below. There is no limit to the number of owners on a Sympa list.
