What is Google Apps?

Overview

Google Apps is a suite of Google applications that brings together essential services for collaboration. This is a hosted service that lets UC Davis use a variety of Google products including Google Docs, Google Calendar and more.

Please note new accounts have a 20GB storage limit for the entire Google Workspace.
There may be access to a share drive for select users or accounts. There is a 100GB storage limit for those new drives.

Answer

Where can I get help?

Google has a lot of documentation, guides and videos available on the Google support page or contact IT Express.

I'm unable to access Google Apps via my smartphone.

In the event that this happens you will need to reset the passphrase on your GAPP permit. We recommend resetting your Kerberos Passphrase for all services versus trying to maintain multiple passphrases for each individual service. Please follow the appropriate link for passphrase reset assistance:

You may also need to try the Unlock Captcha for your account. Sometimes, several authentication attempts in a short window of time will "lock down" the account for your protection.

2-step verification (Application password)

Google allows you to set an additional layer for protection your account. For more information about setting up the process, see this article.

An update to my account is required. What happened?

When UC Davis signed their agreement with Google to use Google Apps for Education, it gained the right to institutionalize all @ucdavis.edu Google accounts. If you used your @ucdavis.edu address to access certain Google services under personal accounts, you may experience a conflicting account situation when UC Davis creates your account in the UC Davis domain. A more in-depth overview on conflicting accounts is available from Google.

I have a conflicting account, what do I do now?

Log in to the personal Google account you use with your @ucdavis.edu email address. If you receive a message stating that you have a conflicting account, you must follow one of two paths to resolve it. You can compare your two accounts by expanding the Compare your accounts section. Click Get Started to begin the reconciliation process. We have prepared a knowledge base article to guide you through the process, available here.
