How do I access SmartSite Course Sites from off campus using VPN?

In the middle of Summer 2017, an effort will be made to further protect the educational records contained in the SmartSite course sites. These legacy course sites will be removed from, and instead be made available through the URL for Instructors, Lead TAs, and TAs. When the change is made, any access to course sites in from off-campus will need to be through a VPN (virtual private network) connection.

If you are accessing SmartSite Courses from a computer on the UC Davis Campus, there is no need to use VPN.

Note that access to SmartSite legacy courses will still require a CAS authenticated (Login ID and passphrase) login whether you are using VPN or not.

It is possible that your department may already have a VPN system in place for accessing on-campus resources when you are away from campus.  If this is the case, we would encourage you to use that system to access

Lacking any VPN through your department, you can access the SmartSite legacy courses using the Library's VPN services.  Through the library, VPN is available for desktop systems, notebooks/laptops, and mobile devices.  Complete information about requirements, software, installation, support, and connecting with VPN is available at the UCD Library web site:
