Question

As an instructor, how do I locate student roster information such as wait list status, email address, major, registration status, petition, prerequisites, and class standing?

Overview

The People tool in Canvas provides some basic roster information including Name, Login ID, Student ID (SIS ID), waitlist status, and what section the student is enrolled into. There is additional information about students enrolled in a particular course that is available from other UCD campus resources to IORs (Instructors of Record).  This article details what that additional data is and where to find it.

Information on the general use of the People tool can be found within the Canvas guide: How do I use the People page in a course as an instructor?

Answer

Beyond what is available in the Canvas People tool, you can use Photo Rosters and MyUCDavis, outlined below, to find more information.

Waitlist

In the Canvas People tool and specific to UC Davis, we indicate if students are currently on the waitlist by changing their role in the People tool to "Student_Waitlist". Students with the Student_Waitlist role have the same privileges in the course as any registered student.  At the end of the add/drop period at the beginning of each academic term, the student will either convert to the Student role if they are able to add the course or be removed if they did not get a PTA (Permission to Add) number.

For comprehensive information on waitlisted students and their position on the waitlist, you can consult Photo Rosters

Student Majors

(1) Photo Rosters (accessed via http://photorosters.ucdavis.edu) includes the following additional data:

(2) MyUCDavis Rosters includes the following additional information:

Once logged in to MyUCDavis, click the heading My Classes and then Classes I'm Teaching.  You will then see links titled "View Roster" for any classes you are teaching for the current academic term or any other term you may select.

The roster that appears will be similar to what appears below.  At this point, you have the option to print or download the roster as an Excel file.
