Question

I have made a MATLAB purchase, how do I install the software?

Overview

If you already have MATLAB installed but need to update to a new license, reinstalling the software is not necessary. See Activate new license for existing MATLAB installation for details.

Follow the instructions below to install MATLAB on your computer. Note that administrator rights are required - If you do not have such rights on your computer, please contact your IT support for assistance.

Answer

  1. Navigate to the UC Davis page for campus MATLAB licenses: https://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/university-of-california-davis-589250.html

  2. Scroll down the page to a box with Sign in to get started.  Click Sign in to get started, which will take you to the UC Davis CAS login screen.

  3. Log in with your Kerberos ID and password.
  4. Create a MathWorks account using your UC Davis email. If you have signed up for MathWorks before, Log in with your existing account.
  5. If prompted, Accept the Online Service Agreement.
  6. After you have created an account and logged into MathWorks, the screen should display a button to download the most recent version of MATLAB. Click on the button.

    Note: Older versions of MATLAB are also available on the right hand side of the page.
  7. Select the correct version of MATLAB that matches your computer. The download should begin immediately and be a .zip file.
  8. Once the download has completed, open the .zip file.
    • Windows: Right click the file and press Extract all.
    • Mac or Linux: Double click the file to open it.
  9. Run the installer:
    • Windows (.exe or .msi file): Enter your computer password if it prompts you.
    • Mac (.dmg file):
      1. Double click the MATLAB icon.
      2. Click Open on the file open confirmation message.
      3. Enter your Mac computer password (not your UC Davis or MathWorks password) to allow the change.
  10. Once the installer opens and loads, select Log in with a MathWorks Account. Click Next.
  11. Select Yes for the Online License Agreement. Press Next.
  12. Enter your MathWorks Account login from earlier. Press Next.
  13. Select license 589250. Press Next.
  14. Choose where to store MATLAB if you’d like to save it a location other than the default applications folder. Press Next.
  15. Select the desired products to install. Recommended products will be preselected. To download all products, press the checkbox on the title row. Press Next.
  16. Select your installation options. Press Next.
  17. Confirm the installation preferences and press Install.
  18. Wait for the program to finish installing. Press Pause if you need to halt the installation. Do not turn off your computer until installation is complete.
  19. The installer will ask you to Activate your license. Follow the steps, press Next when prompted, and set a login name. Press Confirm and then Finish.
  20. You should now be able to use MATLAB.
