Overview
Methods and steps for installing Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Notes:
- Acrobat Pro requires a license which must assigned to your UC Davis computing account before the software can be used; To obtain one, faculty and staff should contact their departmental IT team before installing the software.
- Students can use Adobe Acrobat and other Adobe software for free in IET Computer Rooms, either in person or virtually; Some other computer rooms on campus also have Adobe products available to use. Students can also purchase a discounted Adobe Creative Cloud subscription (which includes Acrobat Pro) through the UC Davis OnTheHub web site.
- If you only need to view or print PDF files (and not create or edit them), that can be done using the the free Adobe Acrobat Reader application, which is available in the Aggie Desktop BigFix Self-Service Application (see below) or from Adobe directly. Additionally, most internet browsers can display and print PDF files.
Procedure
Method 1 - Use the Aggie Desktop BigFix Self-Service Application
Many campus department deploy software, including Acrobat Pro, to university owned computers via the the Aggie Desktop BigFix Self-Service Application. Importantly, this method is the only one that does not require administrator rights. See How to use the Aggie Desktop BigFix Self-Service Application for instructions. If this utility is not on your computer, try one of the other methods listed below or contact your departmental IT team.
Method 2 - Download from your Adobe account home page
Note: This installation method require administrator rights on the computer. If you need assistance, please contact your departmental IT team.
- After obtaining an Adobe Acrobat Pro license from your departmental IT team, go to https://adobe.com/.
- At the top right of the screen, click the Sign in button.
- Enter your UC Davis email address then click Continue.
- You will be redirected to the UC Davis Central Authentication Service (CAS) login page. Enter your UC Davis computing account username and passphrase then click Login.
- Perform a Duo authentication using your preferred method.
- Now on your Adobe home page, click the Acrobat icon in the Your Apps section. The Adobe Acrobat Pro installer will start downloading.
- After the installer has finished downloading, close all applications. Adobe may include plugins and add-ons which can fail if programs such as browsers or Office are running.
- Locate the downloaded file and double click it to begin the installation.
- Follow the steps in the installation wizard. If you are prompted for Administrator rights and do not have those credentials, or have other difficulties installing the software, please contact your departmental IT team.
- If prompted, restart your computer.
- Launch Adobe Acrobat then login to the application.
Method 3 - Download the full installer from the Adobe web site
Note: This installation method require administrator rights on the computer. If you need assistance, please contact your departmental IT team.
- Go to the Adobe Download Acrobat ETLA web page.
- In the Acrobat Pro Installer section, click the blue Download button for the operating system and version of your computer.
Note that some of the installers are over 1000 megabytes, which could take a while to download depending on your internet connection. - After the installer has finished downloading, close all applications. Adobe may include plugins and add-ons which can fail if programs such as browsers or Office are running.
- Locate the downloaded file and double click it to begin the installation.
- Follow the steps in the installation wizard. If you are prompted for Administrator rights and do not have those credentials, or have other difficulties installing the software, please contact your departmental IT team.
- If prompted, restart your computer.
- Launch Adobe Acrobat then login to the application.
