Question
Who can subscribe/unsubscribe from a list?
Anyone can subscribe to or unsubscribe from a UC Davis mailing list. We do not require an @ucdavis.edu email address to subscribe to a list. Please note that it is possible for a list owner to only accept email to the list from an @ucdavis.edu email address. However, this is not common.
The following actions can be performed by sending an email to sympa@ucdavis.edu and enter the appropriate command (Subscribe or Signoff) in the subject line of your email and then the list name (without the @ucdavis.edu) and your name (if subscribing) or email address (if unsubscribing). Make sure that you have removed any signature files from the message.
Overview
Sympa lists are only owner managed and supported.
To add subscribers to a list, that must be performed by the commands below or by contacting and request that from a list owner.
To contact a list owner, please email the listname-request@ucdavis.edu ex: for a list called ucdavishelp you'd email ucdavishelp-request@ucdavis.edu.

To subscribe to a list
Subscribe listname firstname lastname
Requests sign-up to the specified list. The firstname and lastname parameters are optional. If you have a signature file please remove the signature before sending the request, there should be nothing in the body of the message. If the list is configured with a restricted subscription, this command is sent to the list owner for approval.
OR
- Enter the name of the list in the search field and click Search lists.
- The name of the list is the part of the email address before the @ symbol. For example, ucdavishelp, is the list name for ucdavishelp@ucdavis.edu.
- Based on the text entered, it can take a few moments to populate return results.
- Click on the full list name you would like to subscribe. This will take you to the list landing page.
- Click the Subscribe text in the left-hand column. Alternatively, you can contact the owners by clicking on Contact Owners.
- List subscriptions are typically moderated so you'll need to wait for your subscription to be processed by an owner.
To unsubscribe to a list
Signoff listname email@youraddress.com
Requests unsubscription from the specified list.
The following actions can be performed by logging into the Sympa web interface at http://lists.ucdavis.edu

For current student/employee
- When logged into Sympa, you will see the list of subscribed lists in the left-hand column.
- Click on the name of the list you wish to unsubscribe from.
- Click the Unsubscribe text in the left-hand column to immediately unsubscribe. Alternatively, you can contact the owners by clicking on Contact Owners.
- Not all lists allow subscribers to unsubscribe. You may require a list owner to process your unsubscribe request.
For former student/employee
- If you are no longer at UC Davis, your email address is still active for the purposes of email forwarding or for DavisMail.
- To unsubscribe from a list:
- Go to http://lists.ucdavis.edu
- Click the "Other users click here" button.
- Click the "First Login?" link
- Enter your @ucdavis.edu email address and click the button to request a password.
- You will get an email with instructions on creating a password.
- Use that password and @ucdavis.edu email address to log in using the "Other users click here" button.
- Select the list you wish to unsubscribe from in the "Your Lists" section.
- On the left hand column, select the link for Unsubscribe.
